John James Short Beading Sewing Needles

Write your word on fabric with a light colored pencil that will blend with your background or an air-disappearing pen. Come up from the back of the fabric with your needle at the beginning of the first letter and pick up three seed beads. Hold the beads in place following the line of the written word with your non-beading thumb and pass the needle through to the back of the fabric, right next to the third bead. Come back up with your needle between beads 1 and 2, pass the needle and thread through beads 2 and 3.

Pick up three more seed beads, hold them in place with your non-beading thumb, pass the needle down through the fabric next to bead 3, come up again between bead 1 and 2, and pass the thread through bead 2 and 3. Note: if you do not have room for three beads along the line, pick up two beads, come up between 1 and 2, pass through bead 2, and continue. Use this stitch for sewing beads on garments and accessories, adding text to an art quilt, or anyplace you need a little extra embellishment.

If the beads are heavy you will need to use backing otherwise the net will tear or hang down under the weight. Usually what they do is embroider with fine thread and then embellish the inside with small to medium size beads.

Remember you cannot leave knots as they will be visible you can find the correct technique to make thread knot so that it is not obvious here You can use sequins and seed beads which weigh very less. Another idea is to do the work on georgette, silk etc and then applique it carefully on to the net Hope this sounds alright. VERY helpful and thorough guide for a beginner.

Bead embroidery is a type of beadwork that uses a needle and thread to stitch beads to a surface of fabric, suede, or leather.

Bead embroidery is an embellishment that does not form an essential part of a textile's structure. In this respect, bead embroidery differs from bead weaving , bead crochet , and bead knitting.

    Getting Started with Bead Embroidery

Woven, knitted, and crocheted beads may be attached during fabric production, whereas embroidered beads are always added upon finished fabric. Traditionally, bead embroidery has been used on clothing and decorative textiles. It may be used in jewelry with the addition of structural supports such as bracelet bands.

Other clothing accessories such as belt buckles and handbags can be embroidered with beads, and household items such as pillows or boxes may be embellished with bead embroidery.
