Ian is the moron in love with him. Why is Ian so in love? Ian arrives for a job interview only to find Alex making out with another applicant. If my competitors found out about your interests, it could make things complicated for both of us. Ian blackmails Alex into giving him the job on a trial basis.
All of this may be offensive if it weren't so utterly ridiculous. Actual sexist, homophobic assholes and the people who love them have more depth than this. Ian has some depth to him as the story is told from his perspective and we learn he has a sister and niece to support. But we're given no reason as to why he finds Alex so awesome except that he looks good in a suit.
Or bi. Look, I love reading about the Mr. Asshole-who's-just-conflicted-and-misunderstood character and his love interest the I've-been-here-for-you-for-years-I-know-all-your-faults-just-let-me-love-you character. It's why I chose to review this story. But you have to give me a reason to root for these people--I don't want to read a formulaic outline, I need something that makes me care for and relate to the heroes.
The best thing I can say about this story is that I didn't hate it. I just really, really didn't like it. View all 21 comments. Pure fuckery. For explanation of said fuckery, see Rosa's review. Dec 03, Chris, the Dalek King rated it it was ok Shelves: cheaters , contemporary , foreign-uk , holidays , holy-shit-im-queer , mc-pairing-mm , short-stories , techies , white-collar , owned-ebook-or-audio. Being trapped in a room with Alex Alistair is the last thing that Ian wants for Christmas…or any other holiday, to be honest.
And it takes place in Britain so that is an automatic happy place for me. But… This story made no sense. Especially since Alex was engaged and perfectly happy to still stick his dick into anything female on two legs. Alex is a totally douche. Ian totally thought Alex was a total douche. And then…? They look at each other on the roof and suddenly Ian is totally fine making out with the douche, and straight Alex is totally find making out with a dude. Then, next day, Alex is back to being a douche. At all. So that compounded with the technical things I just found ludicrous, made this a hard, and ultimately failed, sale This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.

When his boss acts like a jerk towards him, he leaves the party to head up to the office to do some work, only to have Alex follow him to apologize.
They decide if they can just make it to the roof, one of them can use their cell phones and call for help. I liked the story. It was good. Fast paced and the dialogue between Alex and Ian was really funny. Yeah, the guy was obviously in the closet but the way he was portrayed was really sleazy.
The ending wrapped up really fast and gives the reader a solid HFN.
